Enrichment, Enrichment, Enrichment. Our children as well as adults have to see themselves represented in every aspect of life. Not just entertainment, sports, and the ghetto. We we all must have a vision of what we can achieve and or surpass; than we can make better choices for a better life. The whole point of Black history month, make your own history count.

I disagree with CJohnce1. While I do have my issues with Black History Month, however, I think in some way, it serves a purpose. Sure, we have problems in our communities, when it comes to educating our children, or crime, drugs, etc. There are problems in our community. However, there is another side, that CJohnce1, and a couple of earlier posters missed. It is about celebrating a people that have gone thru so much in this country and have overcome it, whether it was slavery, Jim Crow, lynchings to point where we have people who running Fortune 500 companies, or starting their own businesses to people who are the top surgeons and educators in America.
Plus, the purpose of black History Month, in my opinion, is to expose people, mainly black children, to a history that says that we as a people can accomplish anything that we put our mind to. So the purpose for black history month, while I would like to see be a part of the US history books, is to open the minds and hearts of people t

There are so many incredible men and women of the African American race that have accomplished so much. I am still baffeled that it is the year 2008 and we just dedicate a month... as if that is something so special. Why do we not pay tribute to all who have made such a significate difference in our lives each and everyday.
I know a true gentlman that made major changes in life for blacks and many of you have never even heard of him. As I read about so many and remember them as a child as they were dear friends of my father's, I wonder will we really ever know what they went through for us. He helped change history and so many don't even know his name. Dr. James O. Plinton, Jr., thank you for being the man you were and for doing so much for so many. I love and miss you so much Daddy. For those of you who knew him, you know he would always say...
"Keep you nose up in the turns". Guess that was a good lesson to learn as it helped the Famed 99th Tuskegee Airman- "Red Tails" fly safely

As a black man, this month is a fake, period ! I know the remarks to follow will be harsh, however,I think the facts are overwhelming. Tour a predominant black neighborhood and you will see it is a hood;a place for hoodlums. Take a look at the schools and you will see metal detectors, baggie pants, teenage preggies and empty heads. Pastors in their expensive cars visiting the sick, no visiting a member of the congregation for lunch,no way. How long have we celebrated black history month and no one has stemmed the decline of our lives. So what is the point to elaborate on this month and we know little or nothing of its purpose. Was Bill Cosby wrong? Join his band wagon and we might see the light in a next 5 years.

There is another very important CEO that you forgot and that is James Makawa CEO of The Africa Channel.

I'm very grateful for this type of exposure for our brothers. I work with a mentoring group for young African American males and use these types of articles to help motivate the young men to achieve goals, to become positive contributing members of society as well as loving fathers and husbands (when the time is right for that).
Why would any African American be upset or show contempt at someone elses success? Don't hate, congratulate and lift one another up.

It's very unfortunate that we seem to have more comments about gossip than we do regarding these types of very important issues. Personally, as a yong CEO I'm am very grateful for the ones that have paved the way for young professional African-Americans. Also, we don't know what these people do in their spare time as it relates to their giving of time, talents and treasure. Let's be happy that they made it and let's do more so that more of us can ascend to C-Level suite and take more of us along!

I believe it is wonderful that these men and women did well for themselves, however there are many like myself who satified alot of what I wanted to meet the needs of family. It would be wonderful if some of these CEO would establish some sort of independent program for inidviduals who have a product to market yet lack the finances to get it off the ground because of a bad credit history. Banks are very unforgiving and unfortunately a bad divorce and few other turns can lead your credit being shot. I agree with Ramon, you can't take it with you
